Freeze drying processing of healthy pet treats is done under very high vacuum and extremely low temperature under dry processing conditions.

An initial drying phase — called primary drying — removes water (and ice) by sublimation; during the second phase — secondary drying — it is eliminated by desorption. This effectively preserves the color, aroma, taste and shape of fresh foods, while preserving nutrients and vitamins.
